When nursing school is over...

What do I think about when I'm day dreaming during class, or when I'm not in class. I think about all the things I'm gonna do when nursing school is over...

1. SLEEP. I think that's the most important one I can think of and I can't wait to do it. Alright, let's be honest for a moment. I get sleep. It's actually high on my priority list even when it comes to school work and studying. I really can't wait to go to bed when I want and wake up when I want, with no alarm clocks involved.

2. Beach. I can't wait to finally go to the beach regularly. I am so sick of being white. Besides, I need my vitamin D. It's not that I want to go to the beach; I NEED to go to the beach because vitamins are so important :)

3. Cruise. I've been dying to go on another cruise. Coincidentally, Morgan and my school breaks don't ever match up (besides Christmas and Spring break). Once I'm finished with school, the possibilities are endless.

4. Sew. I started off strong at the beginning of the semester and I was sewing A LOT. Then the exams begun... I can't wait to have time to sew and craft.

5. Work out. Right now, the most I have time to do is like 20-30 min of exercise tv. Someday, I'll have time to do the longer videos on exercise tv. Imagine it now. 40 min. 50 min. 60 min. Whoa.

6. Cook breakfast. When I was at BYU and worked EARLY in the morning (4:45am; yes I really meant EARLY), I used to come home after work and cook breakfast before I went off to my classes. I loved it. I never had done that before, I was always a cereal girl. But, when I had time to eat, later in the morning and after working up my hunger, I LOVED a good cooked breakfast. It's been like 2.5 yrs. Can't wait to do that again.

7. Watch tv. Ha ha. This one makes me laugh thinking about it because there are shows I love to watch. Of course I find time some now, but it's limited. I'm such a sucker for shows and get addicted to a series really easily. My mom will tell me about new shows she likes or watches and I have to tell her to stop telling me about them. The last thing I need right now is another show to watch. But I do LOVE them. When I'm done with school I'll get to watch tv! I mean, come on, imaging watching a show when it actually plays on tv, instead of the re-run later online (not all are on demand). You mean I could actually watch the show in HD?

8. Read. I use to read books all of the time. And now, I read NCLEX books exclusively. I keep hearing of all these good book series I need to read. So come May, I expect to be hearing about all the good books again, since I'll be able to read them then.

Thinking...

Sometimes I think about the weirdest things...

Smoking. This has always really bothered me. People smoke near public entrances and smoke in the cars with the window down. So annoying. Why should I have to inhale other peoples' second hand smoke? When people are smoking, they are really taking away your freedom. Shouldn't I have the freedom and the choice to be smoke-free? But any day that I am driving behind a smoker, or stopped at a light with a smoker nearby, or walking into any building with smokers just chilling outside, my freedom is taken away by those smokers. The other week, Morgan and I went out to dinner, we asked about the wait at six different restaurants before finally settling. Restaurant #4, we were able to be seated right away outside. Not 1 minute after being seated, we were ready to go. We didn't really think about the outside bar and all the people that would be smoking and blowing right into our faces. Real cool.

Presidential debates. I don't think I realized how much of a debate it really isn't until this last election. What a waste of time to have and for the public to watch. What are they really debating? All I saw was two men bringing up the negative points about each other. So really you don't have anything better to say, so you just trash talk each other? What if each person had to come up with one big focus of what they plan to do as president, with a plan of how to do it, and then they actually had to do it?? I don't watch the news much, but the couple of times I have watched pieces of speeches from Obama, I notice that he says what people want to hear. For example, listening to the 2011 State of the Union Speech, Obama says a lot of phrases while offering no follow up. Marco Rubio on the other hand, said things he wanted to do as senator for Florida. On an important issue, healthcare reform, he had a plan at least, an idea of what he wanted.

Roundabouts. Did you notice the YIELD sign? No, it didn't say STOP. Meaning, if there is no one IN the roundabout or APPROACHING you do not need to come to a complete stop. Is it South Florida? English doesn't seem to be the predominant language down here so maybe that's the real issue at hand... Let's be honest, roundabouts are awkward enough - we don't need to create a backup from all sides entering the roundabout.

Wiper fluid. The other week I was driving, when all of the sudden fluid was shooting right in front of my car. The car in front of me had a malfunctioning wiper fluid thingy (ha ha whatever it's called) and it was spraying over the car and right in front of mine. Never saw that before. Pretty entertaining.

Kids. I love how everyone has an opinion on the perfect amount of kids to have. Good thing these people are such experts on the subjects having no kids themselves. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked how many kids I want, and after replying 4 or 5, I've been told that's not really possible with our current economy. Wow. It's amazing how naive some people are. Especially when I know that I am REALLY naive as it is. I grew up in a family of 6 kids and LOVED every second of it. Ok maybe not when I was getting beat up :D Really though, money in versus money out. Is it really that complicated? Isn't it all about priorities? That's great if you know how many kids you want, but don't try to tell me how many kids I can have with the current economy.

MOTHER BABY!

I received my practicum assignment. Starting March 7th I will be on the Mother Baby unit full time, under an RN. I am so excited!!! I LOVE MOTHER BABY!!! OB in general has been my favorite clinical rotation during nursing school, but I especially loved the Mother Baby unit. I am a little nervous because I will be doing nights for this rotation. I figure it's the best time to discover if I am able to handle nights or not (it is only for 2 months).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MORGAN!

Morgan is 29! Wow. I will never be that old :) This year his birthday was on a Sunday. He got breakfast in bed (my family tradition), cooked breakfast and his favorite cereal. Then he opened his birthday presents. We went to church, then came home and ate a delicious crock pot meal. Yummmm and then dessert later. I made my interpretation of strawberry shortcake, per Morgan's request.

Morgan's wrapping up his 3rd year of dental school. He did his first endo (root canal) a couple of weeks ago. He has also cast post and cores (goes inside the canal of the tooth) and made RPDs (removable partial denture). He's been doing really well. The other week I got to watch him do a restoration on a little girl. It was really fun to see him in action.

11 weeks and counting

This is just a heads up in case you may wonder if I have dropped off the face of the earth.

Or you don't hear from me until May.

Or you think I've become inactive.

I have 11 weeks left of my LAST semester of nursing school.

3 of those weeks are finishing up the first half of the semester, where I have at least one exam & two quizzes every week and clinicals and work. After that... Practicum. Practicum is where I get assigned to a preceptor and work their schedule (and I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the night shift too... we'll see how that goes :D). Yes that will be full time in addition to 2 classes during the week and work.

I'm on the last leg of this journey.

So at Christmas time, we left our camera at Morgan's parents house. THANK YOU MIKE & DIANE FOR MAILING IT TO US!!!! We just got it in the mail today :D Yes, that is a VERY happy face!

Bread Bowl

I always make the best dinners on Fast Sundays. It's so easy to devote time to your dinner when it's the most anticipated meal of the day. Alright, I realize maybe my perception of the day is a little skewed. I'm working on it. Today I made my first bread bowl. It turned out good! I found the recipe on Allrecipes.com. I wish it had pictures, but after reading it a couple of times, I realized how to make them. (So I included pics in this post, so you can see how I did it = super easy!) Of course, you can take the time to make it prettier than this. I didn't wanna take the time to roll out the dough, so I just sprayed the bowl with pam & worked out the dough on top of the bowl. It cooked at 375 for 10 min.

Chillin with a Duck

Yesterday Morgan & I went to school. Yes, yes, you are right, it was Saturday. Morgan volunteered to do dental work on kids and I went to force myself to study (yes, force myself, otherwise I never would have done it). After putting in a good 3 hours, I went and watched Morgan do a cavity on a little girl. It was weird to watch him do this. I've never seen him work on a patient, or in the dental lab for that matter. I felt nervous for the little girl (I always get nervous when the dentist is ready to drill into my tooth; most of the time I feel it and he has to numb me up again, and again, and again...). Surprisingly, the girl just sat there and didn't feel a thing. Afterwards while Morgan was cleaning up his supplies, I went outside and sat on a bench by the pond. Along came a duck. Slowly it got closer and closer to me. Pretty soon it was within 1 foot of me and it sat down and just chilled by me. And if you know how much Morgan loves animals, you can only imagine how excited he was to come out and find that duck just chillin :D
